255 to be honoured on Federal

Territories Day



PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin will confer awards, honours and medals to 255 recipients in conjunction with Federal Territories Day on Feb 1.

Set to be the highlight of this year's Federal Territories Day celebrations, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique said the awards were in recognition of contributions made by the recipients to the three federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

The investiture on Feb 1 at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur has been named "Collars Day".

The awards and medals are Seri Mahkota Wilayah which carries the title Datuk Seri; Panglima Mahkota Wilayah which carries the title Datuk; Johan Mahkota Wilayah; Kesatria Mahkota Wilayah; Ahli Mahkota Wilayah; and Pingat Pangkuan Mahkota Wilayah.

The Federal Territories Day celebration theme Wilayah Persekutuanku Gemilang, will be held from Feb 1 to March 8.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is expected to launch the celebrations at the Cheras football stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 1 at 8pm.

The 20,000 people expected to attend the launch will be entertained with cultural shows, performances by local artistes and a firework display.

Zulhasnan also launched the 2008 Federal Territories Day's logo.

Nineteen events to mark the celebrations have been lined up for Kuala Lumpur while Putrajaya and Labuan will hold 17 and nine events respectively.

On another matter, Zulhasnan said seven more flood water retention ponds would be built in Kuala Lumpur to overcome floods.

He added that details of the projects would be announced later.
